India’s Ecomark Scheme is a voluntary eco-labeling initiative implemented by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in partnership with the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). The Ecomark certifies environmentally sustainable products that have proven to have the least impact on the ecosystem. Originally instituted in 1991 but deemed relatively unsuccessful due to low consumer and industry uptake, the Ecomark has been updated in alignment with the concept of f 'Lifestyle for the Environment (LiFE) introduced by India at COP26 in Glasgow.

The health and beauty industry is impacted by 17 category products, including direct cosmetics and products indirectly associated with cosmetics (soap and detergents, paper, packaging material/package). Products are eligible for Ecomark certification if the product:
